Hi guys,

As I am retired now and have some time to spend, I have decided to try to get the PPL within 2 years.
Some screenshots of the Piper PA 28 on which I have having lessons with my Instructor.
I could not believe how beautiful was the Island at a level at 1500 - 2000 feet.

Good on you JC! :D I am sure you will enjoy it a lot. I had my PPL years ago while I was still working with a family to support so I didnt get to spend to many hours at it. I flew the Cherokee 140, the Cessna 150, 172 and the Cherokee 180 a bit. Then medical issues intervened so that was it for me.

Best of luck!

Sure, anytime JC. If I can help! My instructor always insisted that I have an escape plan in mind for any eventuality and I would guess that you would too seeing as how the closest airport other than your home field is about 150nm away! Do they fly floats in Guadaloupe?

Hi Don,

How did you get the PPL Theory ? All in once or you passed the exam in several parts ,

To answer your question, yes we fly boats here in Guadeloupe but not a lot as the island is small. It is mostly for the tourists from Europe, Canada and USA. In fact you can see the beauty of the sea from the sky with different colors (blue, green, etc...) and also the mountain "La Soufrière" which is a sleeping volcano, as well all islands around.
When I was in Québec two years ago in Mauricie, I took a plane which took off from the "Lac Blanc" for a marvellous Tour over your forests in September with all the beautiful colors of Autumn.
It is why I am flying with a Canadian Company !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best Regards

JC

I did my PPL ground school in a classroom with several others once a week for several weeks then wrote the exam after that. Of course, I have been studying ever since! When I look back at my flight training I realize that it was just ok. I learned the techniques required to fly the plane and to pass the flight test. But I didnt get all of the advice and guidance a good instructor can give in flight or post-flight regarding how to interpret and react to weather conditions, considerations for the take off, approach and landing on an actual short field or grass strip and things like that. I did these things using a 10,000 foot runway which is not quite the same! I suppose I could have done all of these things with an instructor after the PPL. I also took the instrument rating ground school which was very interesting! I didnt get the rating but I did get to fly with a rated pilot in actual IMC conditions a couple of times. That was really something to realize that you were actually in flight with nothing but the instruments to tell you what was going on. Much different than in the flt sim!
