Yesterday, while cruising at FL350 in an a319, i wanted to take screenshots, but was presented with a horrible black line coming from behind the aircraft, as seen below in the screens. If anyone knows how to fix the problem, it would be much appreciated.

FSX or FS2004???

Probably missing or accidentally overwritten texture

If it is Project Airbus A319, then Project Airbus's model package tends to overwrite FSX textures as it happened to square shaped light beacons of all my planes from different software companies and squared shaped clouds too. I blame on Project Airbus.

I solved problem by using FSX CD's repair option which automatically repaired FSX and restored beacons of the wings and clouds to correct shapes.

See if you want to do FSX CD's repair option that will do automatic repairs finding any damaged or missing textures to replace.

Hi Ryan,
Are you using Orbx scenery? If so do you have "Ground scenery shadows" checked under settings>display>scenery(tab) Scenery objects? (I'm assuming FSX)
Somewhere in one of the user manuals it recommends not having it checked. I was having problems that looked a lot like what you are showing in your pictures, it took me a while but I traced it back to that issue.

Gary and Aharon, thanks for the suggestions.

I will try Gary's idea first as it's a lot quicker to try. I'll let you know if I'm successful.

Gary, I just fired up FSX and I did not have "Ground Scenery Shadows" enabled. It looks like I'm going to have to try Aharon's suggestion and repair the FSX installation with the disk. Thanks for the help anyway.

I mean use FSX CD disc's repair option or function to repair FSX, not to repair installation:):):) The process of FSX CD's repair option is automatic search for all FSX files to see if there are any damaged or missing ones and then automatically repair by putting the crucial files into FSX folder to restore the functions of FSX as in my case to restore squarish beacon lights into normal working beacon lights and to restore square clouds into normal clouds.

I think judging from your screenshot that some texture folders are missing due to accident overwriting by some new installation of some new add-on.

Hi,

Wierd black contrails and black smoke (square) when touch down.

just repair the fsx , it will re install the removed fx_1.bmp file in you fsx texture folder. if that not helped, download the missing fx_1.bmp file from http://www.microsoft.com/games/fligh... ... .html.Then just copy the fx_1.bmp to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Effects\texture file and IT WORKS.

This will happen when you install any 3rd party addons.

regards

Sudeer.

Thanks for all your imput. I've been quite busy lately so I haven't had time to fix it.

Sudeer, could you please verify the link as it is not working for me.

Thanks
Ryan
