Ok gentlemen and (ladies) should there be any. As of October 1rst we will have a best in fuel consumption competition. This will run for the month of October and there will be a few rules to follow.

Objective:
Fly flight number CVA3000 from CYYZ to KABE using the least amount of fuel possible.

Rules:
1. Must use our default ERJ145 from our fleet.
2. Must use the default payload.
station_load.0 = 75 Wardrobe
station_load.1 = 320 Galley1
station_load.2 = 160 Galley2
station_load.3 = 2380 Economy Fwd // 14 PAX
station_load.4 = 5440 Std Economy Aft // 32 PAX
station_load.5 = 1276 Aft Baggage
3. Must land with enough legal fuel.

Submitting Trips
1. FSACARS will be the only form of entry for contestants
2. In notes section please advise if you are using FS9 or FSX
(There will be two winners one for each category "FS9, FSX", I am not sure if the flight dynamics are compatible so this should make it fair)

Tips
Use the route and flight altitude of your choice and remember that winds aloft can be an advantage.

CAR'S (IFR)
(4) An aircraft operated in IFR flight shall carry an amount of fuel that is sufficient to allow the aircraft
(b) In the case of a turbo-jet-powered aero plane or a helicopter,

(i) Where an alternate aerodrome is specified in the flight plan or flight itinerary, to fly to and execute an approach and a missed approach at the destination aerodrome, to fly to and land at the alternate aerodrome and then to fly for a period of 30 minutes, or

(ii) Where an alternate aerodrome is not specified in the flight plan or flight itinerary, to fly to and execute an approach and a missed approach at the destination aerodrome and then to fly for a period of 30 minutes.

Judging
To find the winner we will dig thru the ACARS and calculate the pounds per minute of fuel burn for the flight. The best results will become our champion.

GOOD LUCK

Are we going to get feedback during the month to see where we stack up, say maybe once or twice, or will we find out only at the end of the month?

Another question. If our flight is disqualified will we know about it? Is that something we should do the math and actually know anyway? ??? :oops:

I REALLY like this type of a challenge!!! :D :thumbsup: :cool:

Oh yeah, one more question. How many attempts do we get?

You bet. expect a weekly report. As for attemps we will limit this to a max of 4 per pilot.

I completed the flight but forgot to add the FS version in the notes. I use FSX. Can this be added or do I have to fly it again?

I was wondering what version you used. thanks
I will add this to my report. one thing I will have to do is sync the measurement becasue some of us us the US system (LBS) and others metric (KG)

Reading this, it seems we are required to fly with "officially required" fuel loads, but reading this...

...it seems we should fly as light as possible.

I know, I know. they don't call me the official nit-picker for nothing.... :devil:

Okay - just checked out the FP and it has this note....

Should you land and park your aircraft without the proper amount remaining in the tanks as per IFR Canadian aviation regulations, your flight will be disqualified.

'nuff said!

Aww man! I was planning to get a realllllllllly long hose and just pump in what I needed :laugh:

I need to find some time and fly this flight, I think i'll spend some more time with planning the Flight Plan, since every gallon counts!

By the way, can we do this offline? as in no VATSIM? Since it takes longer/burns more fuel to get clearance from tower or whoever is online and get on our way?

You can do it on line or off line I am looking for a valid ACARS report and hint for all of you ( fuel burn is calculated wheels up to wheels down). Taxi and gate fuel burn is not in my formula.

So, just to clarify, when calculating the fuel we should have in our tanks upon parking you're going to use the fuel burn rate from our specific flight to determine if we are within the rules?

That's cool.

My first attempt is disqualified, too short on fuel. Watch out, I have hard data now for my next attempt. :devil:

I'm not exactly sure how we're supposed to make make a missed approach and then a successful approach.

Are we supposed to:
- fly in,
- make a missed approach,
- fly around and land (or land at an alternate if that is the case),
- and then have enough fuel for 30 minutes of flight?

The missed approach is calculated in flight planning. The time or fuel burn will vary depending on the airport. Some airports are very busy and a missed approach can say be a 25 minute turn around to land again and at a smaller field this can be 10 minutes. For this exercise I will expect you to have 45 minutes of cruise fuel (30 minutes plus 15 minutes missed app)
I hope this makes sense, Tomorrow I will post some early stats.
