Hey Guys,

Recently updated my PC to windows 7, Hence why i haven't flew in a while, also had alot of work to complete!

This is what happens...

Load up fsx,
Load up fmc,
Start acars,
Takeoff, About 10-20mins after ive actually started flightsim just keeps saying that Flight sim has to close, No error message!

Recommended on Windows 7 is a system spec of 4.0 Mine is 5.9 overall.

So does anybody have any idea? Would be much appreciated!

-Thomas, CVA0331.

Oh god... It could be anything! First thing I would try though, is to make sure you have FSX SP2 (or acceleration) installed. Next, make sure you have all windows updates installed and working.

With that done, I would next try to update my Video drivers.

With that done, I would try to run the sim "bare bones". No FSAcars and no FMC running. See if that's the problem.

Are you running any other software? Weather engine, FSUIPC, Addon aircraft of any kind? Does it always crash in the same spot in the world or does it just happen in random places and times (FS9 used to have a scenery bug that would crash the sim if you flew in a certain area SE of Edmonton, for example).

My FSX on a W7 machine crashed to desktop* whenever I tried using a 3rd party menu item. in this case LDS. Works fine otherwise.

* and told me MS was checking for a solution to the problem, but it just sat there and I finally learned to close it right away.

Hi,

Seems to be the same as what ive got happening Ron however Keith, I see what you are saying, I was on a FSX Multiplayer session approx 2 days ago for 2 hrs or so and my flight sim worked fine!

I think it may have something to do with my FSinn/Copilot for vatsim however i could always use squawkbox?

One other thing, My fsx crashes now and says "Fatal Error Occurred, Flight Sim Will Now Restart"

-Thomas.

I'm running FS9 on Win7 64bit. No issues whatsoever.

I'm a bit leary of messing with FSX if it's going to be crashing all over the place...

Did you just install FSInn? If you haven't flown since installing it, could it be that you are running the wrong version?

I know installing the FS9 version in FSX will crash you hard.

Well i thought it was FSinn However, I Uninstalled it and installed Squawkbox, I Know i cant live without vatisim

But anyways, On a better note, Maybe if I ran FSX as administrator it would work? That would possibly make sence, Getting permissions mixed up as i have addon gauges modules etc.

-Thomas.

Another thing I did, Was to Right-click the "microsoft games" folder and change the folders security settings. I changed it so my login (in Win 7) had full control over the folder and all it's contents. That seemed to help quite a bit as well....

Another option, although it's a last resort, involves a complete reinstall of FSX. If you install FSX into your "Public" folder instead of "Program Files" (or even to the root C: drive), you'll bypass most, if not all, of Win7's security features. Windows doesn't like things messing with .cfg or .ini files within the "Program Files" folder.....

All my crashes have stopped by running FSX as administrator, then starting SB separately as administrator instead of from the FSX menu.

I never install program within Programs folder, I leave that for system stuff.

I always make a D drive and have a DATA folder for everything I need to save, and install all software within their own folders on that D drive.

If my windows install ever craps out, I can retrieve data from the DATA folder or the software folders if need be. Just boot up using another harddrive and use your old drive as a secondary, you'll be able to get to your old D drive.
