Is there something particular about following the GPS flight plan on this airplane?

I had no problem on the ERJ145 and B350, but I can't get the autopilot to handle the heading on the 737. No problem with the altitude or speed either, those work fine.

- engage avionics.
- set altitude and engage.
- set vertical speed.
- set heading and engage.
- engage autopilot.

(once at altitude)

- engage flight director.
- set NAV/GPS to GPS.
- disengage heading.

And nothing, the plane just goes on its merry way.

I usually use the autopilot with heading engaged and change my heading using the dial when I come to each waypoint but if you want the 737 to follow the gps plan you can do the following.

Engage autopilot
Select initial heading and activate the heading button.
Select VOR LOC button.
Flip switch from NAV to GPS.

This should do it.

The only problem with using the GPS nav loc is that it does not line you up with the runway, you probably already know that but just making sure :D
