I've got a problem trying to get FS2004 to open up on Windows XP Professional. I installed it, uninstalled it , installed it again, turned off firewalls on both windows and the anitvirus and still , the same thing keeps happening.

Everything installs well until I get up to the end of disk 4 , then a little window opens up labeled "cannot locate CD-rom". In that box it says to insert disk 4, select OK , and restart application.

I put the CD in , double click the FS2004 icon and this little box is all I can get.

Does anyone know what the heck is going on here?

This program always worked good on the old system. It's got me stumped !

Try right clicking on the desktop shortcut and select properties. From there, you should find a selection for run as administrator. Might work. ???

So if i understand things correctly everything installs properly, the game just won't run because it doesn't recognize Disc 4?

Head on over to www.gamecopyworld.com (since you legally own a copy of FS2004 you can use this website).

There you can download the fs9.exe file that will allow you to run the game without having to use Disc 4. This is great when you play it a lot as it preserves the CD because you aren't using it.

Just did a quick check now on that site and there are 4 different downloads. Make sure you grab the "no-cd/fixed exe" for whatever version of FS2004 you are using. Version 1.0 is the game straight from the box and V 1.10 is with the Microsoft patch installed.

Ok, I'm confused, should I disregard that post, or the one you posted before that?

Hahaha, :p . I had made a post before I read all of Danny's post. I was unable to delete it so I just edited it so as not to look like a broken record.

Marty,

There appears to be some confusion here LOL :D

Is it during the "install" that it craps out on Disk 4, thus meaning FS2004 never fully installs? Or....did it fully install, but when you go to run the game it has the problem?

If you have a bad disk, let me know as you may need to get a new copy of disk 4. Since you have a legal copy, you can have a backup of that disk. I could always make a copy of my disk 4 and send it out to ya.

Cheers!

It's at the end of the installation procedure, it doesn't seem to recognize the end of the disk.

Hi Again,

I got home from work this afternoon, and I uninstalled everything and rebooted the computer.

Then I went ahead and installed everything again , and this time I didn't try to do anything else while I was doing this ,,, heh! :p

I have two hard drives in this comptuer and I think things got confused somewhere along the line last night , because this time everything went really well. I GOT IT WORKING.

The other harddrive is the one out of my old computer and I have all the old files and stuff on that , so I didn't loose any of my past files. I think somehow I had it trying to install it over there or something , I dunno ,,,

Anyhow,,,now , I just have to get all the add-ons, that I had before, installed in to this. I hope I don't get confused again. Sheesh !

Thanks for your replies just the same !

So, yes, send him a copy of disk 4 asap. We must get him up and running! :D Before his wife decides they don't need a new computer after all!

Ha ha ,, yeah , Rob !!

I got the Flight Simulator installed and it is working , but now I seem to have a few little glitches here. Very strange.

Firstly , the "views" keeps changeing all by itself. Every second it changes from cockpit , to top down , to panel, to tower and so on , and so on ...

Also, the kneeboard keeps poping up . I click it off , and a few seconds later ,,, it's back again. Did I miss something here? I never had this problem with the old computer.

??? Hmmm ![/color]

I think you have your beer can stuck in your keyboard or the hat switch of the joystick. :D

I thought of that Frank, but I tried it without the joystick connected , and it still did it.
So then I tried it with a different keyboard and that didn't fix it either.

Wow ! I've never had such a hard time to get this working. This is getting disappointing. ???

This computer was supposed to work BETTER than the old one.
