My game keeps crashing mid flight and it's bugging me because I lose the flight log and need to know what I should be doing with crashed flights I am really not liking this flying for and hour and a half just to see the game crash... I am not finding any issues online, I have newest graphics drivers don't know what to do.

Kaleb, start with a detailed description of your entire system; what version of FS, your OS, RAM, etc.

Also list any add-on, and is it always with the same plane?

I had a problem with game crashes using one of the Dash planes and the LearJet, I just can't remember which Dash, might have been the 300.

I used to have similar problems on almost every flight I did. Now I have a crash once every 25 - 30 flights or so which I can live with.

I use FSX on a laptop with a Vista 64bit operating system and numerous addons. I have made numerous adjustments to my settings and my FSX config file to get it just right.

If you're using FSX try this guide (link below). You might have to adjust some of the settings up or down to get it just right.

As Robert stated post your computer specs and what version of FS you're using here and we'll try and help you get it just right.

Other then The one addon I need for FSAcars to work I have nothing else installed for FSX other then the two service packs... It has been happening with all planes not just CVA planes.

Any ways I am no "newb" when is comes to computers I know if I have a hardware issue and this is not a hard ware issue.

FS-X does not support DX10, I'd suggest doing some Google research on that first. I'm not sure if that's a problem, but I remember reading about how FS-X only is a demo of some sort for DX10 and some have had problems.

Umm, another thing, I'd read up on Win7 64 bit and FS-X. I remember reading about problems with drivers not being ready. I had some problems when I tried using Win7 way back during beta, I went back to Win XP and haven't looked back.

Also, if you still have your Win XP license doing nothing in a drawer, install a 2nd partition. I have a dual boot system and it works just fine and I have the same mobo and cpu as you. This way you can confirm if it's any sort of hardware issue.

The last thing I can think of is something to do with RAM. Ironically my memory is failing so I can't remember exactly why this puts of a red flag, but I'd look into that, testing your ram to make sure none of it is crashing your system.

RAM shouldn't be an issue as you appear to have more than enough although I'm no expert. I have heard as well that there have been issues with Win7 and FSX as well as DX10.

If I remember correctly, I believe I removed DX10 and went with DX9 although I'm not certain. I hope this helps get your issues fixed.

Well funny you say that I just Switched from XP to windows 7 because of issues with Windows XP I am starting to think it is my video cards memory that is failing as my ram is just fine went through 12 Hours of Memtest 64 with no errors. I may have to do some more tests but the weird thing is when a graphics cards memory fails you tend to get graphic artifacts which I am not getting.

First I need to know are you crashing to desktop or are you crashing with blue screern of death or reboot depending on system settings?

If you are crashing to desktop it is most likely your FSX is not config properly or you have added scenery or an aicraft addon that it does not like.

If you are crashing with BSD or reboot this is most likely hardware.

It is only crashing to desktop I didn't think it was a hardware issue... What do you guys think it could be I have air traffic set to max could that be an issue.

I will say this I find the game crashes at particular times like if I open a new view (looking at aircraft nearby) or changing what I am looking at from Cockpit to outside of the plane or changing from the plane to the closest tower... last time it crashed I was opening the GPS up.

This kinda goes out of my range, kinda like my experiences on Vatsim.... CVA0135, You are leaving my airspace, no further ATC is availible on your route, radar services terminated.

:D Anyways, I think it must be a FSX problem if your trying ot open up GPS or some sort of application INSIDE the program which might be mal-fuctioning at a certain point in your flight, how to fix this, I have no clue :(

I'd try starting off with Low settings (graphics ect.) fly a flight, if you don't crash, make your settings higher and so on.

Goodluck, I know it can be frustrating when things don't work but don't give up!

-Matt

When I was having crashes it was happening the same way, changing view, pushing buttons, etc. Traffic settings will definitely affect the load on your system.

As Frank said it could always be an add on aircraft that your system doesn't like.

Try the following settings. This is the final configuration that solved it for me.

Graphics:
Target Frame Rate = Unlimited
Full Screen Resolution = 1440x900x32 (Depends on your monitor)
Global Texture Resolution = Max (very high)
Lens Flare = unchecked
Light Bloom = unchecked
Advanced Animations = checked
Informational Text = Continuous
Filtering = Antisotropic
Anti-aliasing = checked

Aircraft
Default Cockpit View = 3D-virtual cockpit
Show cockpit ToolTips = unchecked
High-resolution 3-d Cockpit = checked
2-D panel transparency = 0%
Aircraft casts shadows on the ground = unchecked
Aircraft casts shadows on itself = unchecked
Aircraft landing lights illuminate ground = checked

Scenery
Level of detail radius = Max (Large)
Mesh complexity = 98
Mesh resolution = 38m
Texture resolution = 2m
Water Effects = Low 2.x
Land Detail Textures = checked
Scenery Complexity = Dense
Autogen Density = Normal
Ground scenery shadows = unchecked
Special Effects Detail = Max (High)

Weather
Cloud draw distance = 80mi
Thermal Visualization = Natural
Cloud Detail = Detailed Clouds
Cloud coverage density = Medium
Download winds aloft data with real world weather = checked
Disable turbulance and thermal effects on aircraft = unchecked
Rate at which weather changes over time = Low

Traffic
Airline Traffic Density = no more than 10% (mine's at 0% because all of my flying is online with VATSIM and you're supposed to have AI traffic off.
General Aviation Traffic Density = same as above
Airport Vehicle Density = Minimum
Show Aircraft Labels = I have everything checked except Tail Number
Cycle Rate = 1 second (I don't think this one matters)
Road Vehicles = 6%
Ships and Ferries = 100%
Leisure Boats = 6%

Try these and I have a feeling your crashes should stop or at least reduce greatly.  Once you find something that works, take note of the settings and then play around with individual settings and see what your system can handle.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you make out.

If you're not getting a BSOD and only crashing to desktop then I'd look at FS-X very closely.

Given your recent post I'd also say to turn down graphics settings. I'd start with all sliders and options at low and gradually move your way up.

If the config above doesn't help you, I'll check out mine when I get on my gamer. You should be able to run whatever I run if not better unless you run triple monitor.

well I am 90% sure I have fixed the problem 3 complete long 3 hour plus flights with no crashes...

The problem I believe was an Auto updater program so I have now disabled any programs that have an auto updater... Adobe, and a few others. But is seems to have fixed it.
