Hey guys, Im back with another problem lol as usual!

I wanted to start flying online as I found a nice pair of audio equipment with headphones and speaker thing attached, and plus it sounds like more fun.

Randy has been helping me set things up but despite his great help I am a failure at computers lol. It seems like I have everything installed correctly and all the information that I needed to put into the setup part once I had fsx up and running.

If I click on VATSIM or VSN they turn from green to red and nothing happens.

Does any1 know what my problem could be? Perhaps I installed the software incorrectly or Im not imputting proper data into the sections. Or if any1 has a website I can check out to help fix some of the problems im having! Thanks =D

Matt

I'm assuming you are using FSINN since you mentioned the VATSIM button turning green then red. So first make sure you are trying to connect to the right server.
You can access the FSINN options two ways: open FSX then start FSINN from within or go to your start menu -> Programs -> FSFDT -> FSINN UI

Once the FSINN window is open click SET -> Network -> VATSIM. Make sure the server is one of the following:

88.198.19.202 EUROPE-C2
89.233.173.18 EUROPE-CE
88.198.64.7 EUROPE-CW
202.45.127.66 OCEANIA
80.249.101.122 UK-2
66.221.192.84 USA-S3
64.151.80.104 USA-W2

Choose the one that is closest to your location. If in Canada then normally it would be either of the USA servers.
Also make sure you are typing your VATSIM ID and Password properly in the required fields. But i think if you've typed them wrong it would say "invalid callsign or password."

What type of internet connection do you have. Is your computer connected directly to the internet or do you use a router? If you are connected directly to the internet then you probably have a software firewall (Norton Antivirus or something soimilar) that is preventing FSINN from accessing the internet. If you use a router then that too has a firewall that is probably preventing FSINN from accessing the internet.

And on a side note what is VSN? Another online flight sim community?

Uhm my internet is high speed its not dial up or anything, And my computer is connected to the internet through my router. I will try disabling my firewall on computer but how do I access my routers firewall?

And yes VSN is another online community (I think)that Randy reccomended for me to try while he was helping me set this all up.

Remember you don't have to completely disable your firewall as that can leave you vulnerable to attacks. Most software firewalls allow you to give access to certain programs. In this case you want to give access to FSX.exe, fwinn.exe, and fsfdtcp.exe.

When it comes to your router you just need to tell it what ports to give access to. For FSInn you need to give access to UDP 3290.

Check out http://portforward.com/ which will guide you through forwarding ports on your router. Just select your brand, then after the ad page, click the link to the "Default Guide" and follow the instructions to allow UDP 3290.

Hi Matt, You might want to try reinstalling CoPilot and FSInn. I found a website that still has the links.

http://flightsim.apollo3.com/files/fs-files.html

If you're using FS9 you want to make sure you have FSInn 1.2 and CoPilot 1.7

If you're using FSX you want to make sure you have FSInn 1.3 and CoPilot 1.6.

I've got my fingers crossed for you.

That port forward website was helping me great untill I got to that part where it told me to make a static Id in order to make my ports work. I went to hell and back trying to figure that out lol, I finnaly gave up on that praying its not my firewalls fault and I will try re-downloading Fsinn and copilot xD

Yeah the static IP address thing is somewhat confusing. I setup my router so that my IP address is in the DMZ which basically means it bypasses the router's protection. Since I have a software firewall this doesn't bother me.

Another option if you still can'g get it to work is to connect your computer directly to the internet, bypassing the router. Just unplug the main internet cable from the router and plug it into your computer.

We will get you set up eventually :p

Well lol I went step by step trying to get that static ip but by the end of it my internet wasen't working so I had to revert to the previous settings. By the way, where can I get that information so I can set up VATSIM and VSN , like the UNICOM and stuff? Since I re-downloaded FSInn and copilot I diden't think to copy down the previous settings :p

If you come on to Teamspeak I can help you with the settings again.

I'd concentrate on getting one network running properly first, either VATSIM or VSN (keep it simple, less errors).

I think you have that mixed up, it should be:

FSInn 1.2 and CoPilot 1.6 for FS9.
FSInn 1.3 and CoPilot 1.7 for FS-X.

I'm using 1.3 and 1.7 for FS-X and it works great. I love the radar, easy private chat and 3 radios: Com1, COM2 and UNICOM all at the same time.
