Hi All,

I've been around the FS scene off and on for a few years now but never really "excelled" to where I would like to be. I think the problem is primarily the fact that I just like to get the takeoff and landing sequence in! :-)

I'm not to bad with the general takeoff and departure sequences but tend to have problems at times with the landings. Primarily is because there is so much going on and I am dropping out of Auto Pilot to complete the landing. As well, entering into the traffic patterns and knowing which pattern to use is always a problem for me.

I'm sure half of my problem is simply doing the research and having the charts (and knowing how to read the charts) would really help. I have a CAP manual and various low / high altitude real world charts / manuals for my usage to refer to but need help understanding things.

Anyone willing to give an eager novice a hand? One day I hope to become a real world private pilot so all I can learn now will really help.

Thanks!

Oh...one thing I forgot to ask...

How / When does one achieve their "Gold Wings"? I don't remember seeing the details on how you get to this level although I suspect it only comes after the 350+ hours.

Thanks!

Darryl, there is a wealth of information available on these subjects. CVA will very shortly unveil a revamped Academy which will go some way to answering your questions. There are also several online Virtual Aviation Academies which will also help you out, simply google a relevent term. Built into your FS9 (I assume that's the one you have) is a very good tutorial program, have a look through that as well. With regard to Gold Wings, there are no strict criteria for "earning" them. They are awarded by the President of CVA periodically to those members who have contributed in a significant way to the VA. If you have any specific questions, feel free to post them here or in our FAQ, found under the "Info" tab above, or send them directly to me, my e-mail address is available in the Halifax Hub pages. Welcome to Canadian Virtual.

Hi Darryl,

The Gold Wings are given to members who have shown an outstanding contribution to CVA. Participation in weekly flying events is a good place to start - although other forms of contribution are important to such as helping your fellow members within the forums and offline.

Your Silver Wings can be earned by successfully completing the Final Exam listed in the 'Academy' Section of this website...

Darryl (nice spelling bud)...

When the new website is complete - a Welcome to CVA pdf will be available. But, Good point - I will add that to the FAQ.

Hi Darryl

For info on chart reading, and a plethora of other topics, read Michael Oxner's TOPIC OF THE WEEK on the VATCAN site. You will have to access the archives, as Michael has discontinued writing them, for now.

The column address:

Cheers!
