I have found the easiest way to start the engines to be:
First press F1 once to set the throttle in correct position. Then click the centre console prop switch to left to move the props into start position. Turn on left fuel pump and left ignition. Then start the engine by first turning the starter to left and press start. Remove GPU and do the same for right engine.

Now just have to figure it out. :)

I finally got the J4100 and the Dash 8 working. a lot of reading to do.
Those prop locks are a bitch.

Cal I have a trick for the prop locks I found that if you press F2 repeatedly when the plane first loads, this will set the props in lock then you can start your engines.

LOL. How did you figure that out? Did your cat happen to stand on the F2 key at just the right time.

The trick with the feathering it to wait for it to happen, it takes a bit, I was trying to start right after hitting the feathering pump
If you wait 15 seconds or watch the prop feather it works every time. :P

There is a joke within the Yellowknife Bush Pilot community and the RCAF Vampire's. When it is dead bone cold and the Props dont feather, get out and crank the SOB's till they feather lol. In essence " The trick with the feathering it to wait for it to happen" you quoted is 110% right on the nail head. I know and learned the hard way from #802 CC138. That darn CC-138 has a attitude in feathering and extreme Cold WX to the point you want to take a sludge hammer to it to show who the boss is. Once she feathered and TO'd, man was she smooth and graceful until ya oil temps starting going nuts lol. Oil and Arctic Temps in Dead Winter err and man is it thick and sticky if ya have the privilege to change the oil or drain it. I'd imagine it is the same with the JS4100 considering I've seen a fair share of Q's and ATR's freeze lol. With the PMDG JS4100 I like the fact that the icing effects and dynamics operate according to the WX coming into the sim.
