I have been having some trouble with liveries on some CVA paints lately - the a/c show up without any colour at all. I did not relate it to my use of DX10 preview mode in FSX until I ran across some of the disclaimers of a/c I was looking to buy - some of them said they won't work with DX-10 preview.

I checked both modes and it is a DX10 preview problem. But it doens't seem to be due to a particular model. Here is what works and doesn't work:

Works:
B350 default a/c
737 Opensky
all default AC liveries

Doesn't work:
ERJ, 777, 747 Opensky
Dash7 100 Milton Shupe
MD-11 iFDG

Is this useful info? Probably not as not many of you use DX-10. But I think my scenery is way better in fsx with dx10 so if anyone knows what I can do about this, let me know.

Here's a screen shot or our 777 in Dx10 Preview...

Note that the inside (panel etc) is coloured normally.

All the FSX Aircraft have "DDS" extentions on the textures, I'll see what I can do to convert from BMPs to DDSs and see if that will work in FSX DX10, I know there will be issues with the Windows as they have to be made DX10 while making the aircraft. They will be black, and there is nothing that can be done about that, other than by the person who made the aircraft..

Welll,,,I'd rather have a white a/c than an a/c with black windows. That would be like an ILS test.

Sorry to bore you all to death, but someone may find this interesting.

It's not just the outside of the a/c that doesn't display correctly. I just tried out the CVA 738 for the CYVR - KRNO multi flight tonight and the rain in Vancouver and the GPS also do not show properly. The GPS is not a problem except that my mouse started stuttering/vibrating and I couldn't click anywhere. When I switched out of DX10 - no problem.

So if an a/c is not made for DX10, it will have some problems.

I note too, that some payware will not work with DX10, so it's something to keep in mind.

cheers

I'm sure the windows are just black on the outside. but in the cockpit you can still see out. I think the Posky 737 was that way

Heh - I was flying the ERJ 190 with Keith's paint and noticed that it did NOT have any blank areas. I was surprised because this is what it looked like when I first started FSX...

Here is what it looks like in the game...

(I was going to point you to a pic from Keith himself, but there seems to be no way to select URLs for individual messages)

The ERJ145 that I painted is DX10 preview also and no problem, I tried making the bump maps and other files for the MD11 and nothing. I'm pretty sure the aircraft has to be made as a DX10 to begin with.

Isn't the blue bottom missing from Keith's?

I dont' think so. Here is his post (scroll nearly to the bottom)

Maybe you're thinking of the 145.

Then they aren't true FSX, but converted or made with old tools. as far as I know.

I was doing a bit of reading, and the texture is done "DX10" at the making of the aircraft (originally when they are putting the textures on the model) and there is nothing as painters we can do to change it. has anyone converted an FSX plane to fly in FS9? and how does it look.

I found out why - no, when - parts of my ERJ190 don't show the paint properly. The paint won't show on the engines, for example, when I turn on my cockpit lights.

Lights off...

I assume other functions cause the wing colours to disappear. Interesting.
