If it's the LDS 763 they have a few tutorials available. That's how I got started. Then after about 6 months I was pretty good at flying it. :;): :D

I just noticed that there is no FSX lazy mode GPS NAV option I just realized I need to use an FMC for NAV routes... I DON"T EVEN know what an FMC is... god I better read the 200 page manual...

Lol Kaleb you will learn to love the FMC, its your best freind in heavies :) I suggest watching tutorials on youtube, it avoids pages of reading!

The FMC is actually easier and more usefull than FSX standard GPS, for example, you know if you pre-load a flightplan into the FSX GPS? What happens when ATC re-routes you and such, you have to cancel your whole flight plan and go waypoint to waypoint(or VOR or what have you) Where in the FMC its no problem, you just edit the active route and your all set!

If you want I can reccomend some videos I found helpful and Roberts checklist above is great so try using that and then do a step by step tutorial, watch it then re-watch it untill you turn blue, then ittle start to stick.

Warning though, programming the FMC adds to a more lengthy pre-flight preparation process. It takes me about 15-30mins to program the FMC alone in my PMDG 747, and Im quite good at it altought theres probably things I could do better as always :D But once you take the time to program the FMC, it makes your life a hell of a lot easier in the air :)

Another thing about the FMC, its not like you set the FMC, and leave the cockpit to go get some coffee, no!!! (although I have done this before  ) I like to think of the FMC(Flight Management Control system by the way is what it stands for) as your co-pilot, since we don't have the luxury of having one unless you manage to lure your children or wife into helping you. At the end of the day, you are the altimate authority, its you that disengages the FMC to fully takeover the aircraft when things get rough, and the FMC works for you, if you don't like what its doing, you can change it to suit a specific Departure or arrival or when ATC gives commands like "Climb to FL250, you can get the FMC to do that too, even if it haden't programmed to climb to Fl250 for another few miles...

I don't know why my responses always turn into lectures so bear with me :p

-Matt

Don't forget that checklist is just a first rough draft, it's far from finished but it's a good start. Also, that checklist assumes a cold & dark start-up.

I have to compare it with the official LDS checklist to put things in their proper technical order, I put them where I felt comfortable with them.

About the FMC, the plane starts up in default mode. Just set your flaps and go for a spin. You don't need to set any of the complex systems for a ride around the town. I practiced touch and goes for a while, then I added one system at a time, making my flights more complex as I got comfy with the plane.

Look at the PDF manual for the LDS767, skim through it once, then go to your favorite airport and start at pages 150-169.

This section will guide you through basic prep, FMC setup, AFDS setup (auto-pilot), engine start, take-off and landing. You can go through this section a zillion times, it has the most for the total newbie.

Then there's 73-116, this goes into much more detail. I have to read the rest later, but I still have a bit to do as it is.

I didn't print the entire manual, I just printed those sections one at a time and poured through them.

If you have a problem, check the LDS forums, there's tons of good stuff in there. The LDS767 has been around for a while and any problem we encounter has already been worked over by someone else.

The only problem I have is with the Position and Red/white Collision lights not showing up. I tried everything I found in the forum but still nothing:

- removed CVA skin and reinstalled LDS-767, still nothing.
- DX10 disabled.
- tried windowed mode and fullscreen.
- used recommended resolution for LDS767.
- tried in pitch dark, nothing.
- and one more thing I can't remember.

Besides that the plane is a beauty.

Thanks for the great start up info but I am just wondering how did you set it up to preform a cold / dark start up I don't see it in any of the options...

Edit I may also wait until I get my new video card back so I can use both my monitors, Trying to fly this thing with one monitor is way to hard on my part...

Is there a big difference between the Wilco and LDS 767?

I am 100% sure that Wilco sells the LDS 767 I don't believe they have they own.

I just purchased a new Gateway FX gaming computer, running an Intel Core i7 processor 12 Gb ram and a Nvidia Geforce GTX 260 with 2 gigs of ram on it, 1 Tb hard drive, and Windows 7. FS X runs very good on it 30 to 40 FPS with everything maxed out except cars and boats.
FS9 is incredible, max right out with Vancouver +1, and a bunch of other scenery, PMDGs work good in both versions but I have a problem with Level D 767, everything is fine until I click the lights on (in the main panel) and it freezes everything, I have to shut down the computer by clicking the on off switch. has anyone else had this type of problem or knows of a fix? I tried the Level D forums but nothing like this. all other aircraft work great.

LDS is Level D from Flight 1, not Wilco.

Are the FSX and FS9 version of the LDS767 installed and licensed seperately? Maybe they conflict. no idea otherwise.

You have both versions of the LDS-767? I thought you had to buy one version for FS9 and one for FS-X.

Kaleb, the trick is to let FS-X start up the LDS-767. then do a shut-down of all systems and then save your flight.

Then go on that top menu bar, click Add-Ons, B767 Specific and Export Current Panel Data to a Flight. This last step is important or else FS-X gets lost when you reload the flight later.

So when you want to start cold & dark, Load that flight and Import the panel data.

TADAA!! cold & dark cockpit.

I have just the FS9 version of the D and running it in FS9 and thats where the problems are. I started having problems when I installed it in Windows 7 I was just commenting how FSX work on the new computer.
