Go into your textures folder for this repaint and open the PMDG_747_FUSE_LEFT_T file. It should be a dds file.

Open it with DXT and take a screenshot. Let us see what the sim is seeing.

Chuck its just a plane white left side of the fueselage, with all these layers for doors, gutters, tail cones, and more. Am I supposed to be painting onto this? I've been painting onto? I've been exporting this file into the DXTbmp and then importing it into photoshop for editing(painting) and then trying to send it back to DXT and save it.
Oh and I don't get what flipping the image means, do you actually mean to flip it around and save it like that?

Ok, in the files you downloaded from PMDG, there should be a file called PMDG_ 747_FUSE_LEFT_T.psd. Open this directly with Photoshop. Put your paint colors on a new layer near the bottom of the list. If you put you paint on and it covers things like doors and panel lines, you are painting on top of them. You will need to slide the layer to a lower layer level so that you paint "under" these markings.

When you are satisfied, you MUST merge the image into a single layer.

Then you have to cut it into three pieces as mentioned before and paste them on to your actual texture sheet. This can be found in your PMDG747-400 aircraft folder in FSX. You want the texture called PMDG_747_fuse_Left_T.dds. Open this with DXT and make note of the orientation of the texture. Export the bitmap from this to Photoshop, paste your cut pieces to it and click save. Go back to DXT find the refresh image menu item, make sure the textures look to be oriented correctly and save to a new folder as a dds image.

Got to run to work..have fun!!!

Ok i'll have to work on the fuselage, I need to get the hang of that, so far Its the colour I want it to be, but its all fuzzy looking and weird, its kind of like a sci-fi reflection to it, weird lol :D. Also there are two different engine things to paint, do I paint both or is one left to be blank?(no im not talking about RR or P&W or whatever it comes with, im talking about there being two different files for the engines, Im thinking one is for the outside coverings, and the other for the bottom or something) because the engines turn out black with no details in the preview in fsx.

Im so terrible at this!@

The best thing is to go to youtube, there is a lot tutorials there on painting in FS X and FS9

I don't know what else to say, If you want to spend the time to learn how to paint FS aircraft, I think the best way is to try some tutorials, thats what I did, try and follow the tutorials it will come together in the end, there is so much info to just point you in the right direction and away you go. It's going to take some time and effort on your part, and you won't be doing it overnight. If you look on FLIGHTSIM.COM and AVSIM.COM all the really good textures are done by a very few painters, I don't want to discourage you, but hey if it was easy, everyone would be doing it. :D

Paint Shop Pro is NOT expensive and just as good for painting airplanes.

Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo XI
Regular price: $29.95 Sale price: $5.95

I've used to it paint cars in racing sims; alpha layers, masks, it's all there.

As a side note, has anyone given any thought to the next version of the CVA livery? Many of our planes have the 'Vancouver 2010' logo on them. BTW I really like the current paint!

on the topic of repaints, i would just like to say i just finished my first working repaint for FS2004 using Gimp, i used Emerald Harbor Air C208B to repaint, i still have some editing and things to change though, i will post pics of what i have right now later. the next plane i plan to repaint once i get things figured out is Either the C208 Amphibian or the the PAD Saab 340B. i'm painting them pink and i'm having them say "Air Letto" On Them.
