Just a suggestion to management, would it be possible to permit the use of a lower class plane on a given route?
We already have an extensive route database, but we will always have requests for more as evident in the forums.
For example; we have a class 4 route between Montreal and Toronto. That same route could be used by class 1, 2 and 3 aircraft. It would be the responsibility of the pilot to make sure the aircraft can fly that far.
As the database is structured, we will eventually run out of numbers (this is a serious concern already). Also, the duplication of the same route for more that one class of aircraft creates extra work for the staff. It also places a limitation on a pilot's route selection.

At one time, back in the dawn of CVA, it was permissible to fly a route using a class 1 step up or down from the actual class. This kept route duplication to a minimum and , I think CVA probably has more routes than most real airlines. I like the diversity this creates but, it does entail a lot of work.

I'm all for structure and organization, but we fly for fun. Personally I don't see how using a lower class plane can take away from the "order" within CVA.
The same could even be true for class up aircraft. As long as it can fit at that airport, what's the harm? Freeing up class route restrictions would free up so many routes (private jet to Carribean comes to mind).
Of course pilots should still fly according to their class lecel.
