If online, make sure to note "low level helicopter training" in flight plan and select an airport with no traffic. You don't want to annoy ATC or freak out other aircraft. Here's a few exercises I've been doing:
Hop: - start at one end of a runway. - take-off gently and land 100 feet down the runway, start with very low altitude. - repeat until you can chose exactly "where" you want to land.
Hover: - hover close to the ground. - turn one rotation left, stop, then one rotation right, while maintaining position.
Ground maneuvers: - hover as low as you can without touching the ground, something like 5-10 feet. - now "drive" around the airport using the taxiways, trying to maintain constant slow speed and altitude.
Touch and go: - take-off to 2500 feet and circle around to reach 100 knots. - select a specific area to land, start big and gradually decrease until you use a helipad (not all airports have them). - land as smooth and fast as possible, rinse and repeat.
Tips: - Face into the wind on landings. - Start with no wind and progressively turn it up.
