Hi all, I flew out of Kingston Jamaica today on leg 6 of the beer charter. I got this metar:

MKJP 232000Z 17007 CHECK TEXT NEW ENDING ADDED KATLYTAA

What does that mean exactly? VATSIM weather was showing this:

MKJP 231900Z 16007KT 9999 FEW020 FEW024CB SCT200 29/24 Q1009

But it was 1/8 mile visibility in FS9 using ASV.

Thanks

My guess is that whatever they use to gauge visibility was out of service at the time the metar was taken... maybe the weather guy went blind all of a sudden? ;) Either that or they forgot to type in that part of the metar and it was added on later

That is a strange one....but the KATLYTAA looks like a header for aviation messages. For instance we at London FSS are CYXUYFYX. Maybe the hourly weather had been submitted by another aviation/weather authority because they were unable or all there wether equip got wiped out. Who knows.....just a possibility. If that were the case, it would refer to Atlanta, Georgia of course.

That is possible Bruce, that wasn't long after Wilma came thru that area, so perhaps their equipment got hit and they still hadn't fixed it yet. Thanks!!
