Just curious to know what has been the general experience with flying in FS2020. I installed it yesterday and did a few flights in Cessna and Beech Bonanza. Sadly other than the scenery - there is nothing worthwhile to talk about. Trying to use the G1000 in the default aircraft has been extremely frustrating. I could barely manage to insert a flight plan and activate waypoints to the approach. The fact that G1000 does not pop up like it does in XP11 is another pain. I constantly have to use my mouse scroll-wheel to zoom in and out. All in all - I won't be sticking to MS FS2020 for any serious IFR flying. Thoughts?

There are mods to make the FMS and G1000 usable
you can find them at:

https://github.com/flybywiresim/a32nx
https://github.com/Working-Title-MSFS-Mods/fspackages
https://github.com/saltysimulations/salty-747
https://github.com/lmk02/B787-XE

the Fly By Wire A320 is the only one to use at this time.

MSFS2020 is all I've been using since it came out.

Thanks Cal. Will check them out. But since I am more invested in X-Plane, will mostly stick to it. I am just trying out FS2020 with xbox game pass (got a nice offer buy 1 month, get 7 months free) - so will use it for VFR flights.

Hi Indrajit,

It looks like Microsoft has release Update 6 as of a couple days ago (possibly before you installed it) and has some fixes for the G1000. i don't believe this will completely fix your issues but there are a raft of updates in this latest release. There is also a Game Of The Year edition coming out in November which is a free upgrade for those who already purchased FS2020 and is set to add even more updates / content.

here is a link to some details on the latest patch updates though:

Cheers!

Thanks Darryl. I downloaded the update but haven't had chance to test it out. A simple example of a frustrating and funny situation -> A guy on FS discord server was streaming while flying through Grand Canyon. He zoomed into the G1000 to take look at some information and crashed on walls of the canyon! I hope MS quickly comes up with some enhancements like popup panels. It is a shame to have such nice scenery with broken aircraft.

Hi Indrajit,

I've been putzing around with FS2020 views and found the easiest way to simulate a 2D panel like we had in FS-X is to create a few custom camera views.

Default keys are CTRL-ALT-x to SAVE, and ALT-x to LOAD.
x can be 0 to 9.

I use the Cockpit View keys to align and to zoom, then save the view. I do this progressively from top left (captain), across the right, and then across the bottom (playing with the Cessna 172P with G1000 right now).

So in game, it's a quick ALT-x to look at a panel, then CTRL-7 to return to "flight view".
