Shalom and greetings all my pals,

Straight out of NWT ICE PILOTS episode, here is a nice Curtiss C-46 Commando flight from Ekati Airport (IATA: YOA, ICAO: CYOA) is located at the Ekati Diamond Mine, Northwest Territories, Canada to CYZF Yellowknife Airport in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada.

Boarding cockpit in middle of heavy snowstorm

Image

Ready to start engines!!

Image

Engines started with roaring sounds and lots of engine start smokes

Image

Taxiing to short of runway 02

Image

Entering into runway 02

Image

Starting take off run!!

Image

Airborne on climb to 10,000 ft fading away into thickness of clouds

Image

Climbing through clouds

Image

Best part of flying Curtiss C-46 Commando is that you get to fly at required 10,000 ft giving you gorgeous view of clouds as seen on this example showing combination of views of clouds and spinning propeller out of left cockpit window

Image

Cruising just above heavy clouds

Image

Image

Oh no oh no clouds are clearing away

Image

Image

yeah yeah more more heavy clouds

Image

Image

Look at thick clouds as the plane was on descent from 10,000 ft to 2,000 ft on way to runway 33

Image

Moments before touchdown

Image

Whoa whoa whoa slippery icy runway!!

Image

Exiting from runway 33 into taxiway A after crossing runway 9/27

Image

Taxiing on taxiway A to gates

Image

Arrived at gate

Image

Cockpit view of CYZF parking

Image

Nice view of how busy the airport is!!

Image

Thank you for viewing. Please stay tuned for next exciting flight!!

Regards,

Aharon

I never thought I'd say a plane was cute, but I'd say that one is. Nice show, as usual.

Me too until I saw NTW ICE PILOTS show seeing all propeller planes performing well in MINUS FORTY DEGREE temperature weather and this forced me to want to recreate on FSX!!!

Thanks for kind words.

Aharon

Never thought I would see the day where you flew props - and seemed to enjoy it instead of those MONSTER ENGINES!!! :D

Cheers!

That is because you asked me to be a temporary acting events coordinator in your absence during your business trips and I believe that the main responsibility of any acting or permanent event coordinator is not only to fly in every single event but also to lead the pack of pilots in every event as lead pilot.

Hence me forcing to fly propeller planes. I flew in past three propeller plane events for CVA as temporary acting event coordinator so that I would not let CVA pilots down. It will look bad and will reflect poorly on CVA's overall image if I announce weekly events and do not fly on those events.

Good thing I do NOT have to announce only propeller event EVERY week or otherwise I would go crazy flying props:):):)

GAHHHHH!!! KLM :x

Delayed twelve hours in Amsterdam last January because they stuffed up the booking.

Anyway, anger aside, nice pictures Aharon. I love the Ice Pilots TV show, unfortunately it isn't screened very often down under :(

So you like my RW Canadian Home and it's balmy beautiful WX  I think Yellowknife is better then where I got assigned San Antonio TX the US frying Pan. Good thing I still own my House there and sold the one I had in Iqaluit. Yep it's getting closer to retirement, another 5-7 years.
But at least Viking keeps 3 DHC6-400's here in San Antonio and 1 of them will be mine when the USAF is done with it in three years. But that isnt the same to hearing and smelling props and avgas lol, nothing replaces that in the morning not even coffee and Irish whiskey.

Great pics and a good story line as usual! It must take a lot of time and research to come up with all the info about places and sights along the way. Well done Aharon! But a couple of observations... the story took you directly down the taxiway and onto the runway as in a turbine aircraft. In any piston aircraft there is a stop before entering the runway to do the required engine runup. You must get temperatures up the right levels before attempting a take off and at minus 40 degrees taxi time is not likely to do it. That is a great looking panel in the C-46 too but I'll bet it surprised some Buffalo Airways pilots if they saw it!

Shalom Don,

Thanks for kind words. Yes you are correct about engine operations in -40 degree temperature. If you would please be kind enough to look at my words "taxiing to short of runway", it means I stop on taxiway short of runway to do required run-up before entering into runway.
