Well I've un-installed the program I initially installed and searched my computer for any traces of anything relating to kACARS rebooted re-downloaded from the CVA site and after re-installing the program it still shows data entered (pilot id and password) it must be something in the program, a registry setting that isn't deleted or something so far I give this 0 out of 5! Yeah, I know it's my own fault for jumping the gun and installing the program from the web but one would think that un-installing a program should actually un-install it!

Gary, you need to tell the program "who you are".

Open Kacars,
top left corner where it say info,
Click and a drop down will say " Settings/Info"
Click "Settings" (window will open)
Enter your CVA Pilot ID and password.
Click "Save"

Hi Frank,
the problem is kACARS won't forget who I am! I shouldn't have installed the "free" version off the web but I did and un-install it as I will it keeps restoring the settings from that initial install and I can't find anything relating to settings that is leftover after I un-installed Re-installing from the CVA site keeps those initial settings and the program just won't function.

I had this problem when Chuck made the last version. You see there is a Kacars file without the s at the end and so when you uninstalled the shortct link keeps pointing to the old version from the Web.

so this is what to do.

Open the folder where it is installed such as my example here

C:\Program Files\FS Products

in FS Products folder you willl see a Kacar and a Kacars file.
Delete the Kacar and the open the Kacars folder and select the (kACARS - Customizable.exe) with your second mouse button.
In the drop down select Send To
the Select Desktop (create shortcut)

My bush pilot VA has been using the free version of kACARS for about a week. When I downloaded the CVA version, I made sure it installed to it's own folder - ie-CVAkACARS. It created a separate desktop icon. Now I can use both, and do not seem to be having any problems.

Can I continue using my FSCARS that never gives me problems?? If so, great!!

If not, do I have to delete or uninstall FSCARS first before installing new KASCARS or whatever it is called?

Just did my first flight using kcars kmia/cyul and everything worked perfectly. Nice program. I still have fsacrs installed. No problem keeping it there - doesn't seem to be any conflict. Like you, I never had any problems with fsacars either. I must say, I really like the new kcars, so far. I'll wait for a bit before I start jumping up and down with joy though. :D

Cheers Bill

That did it Barry! So simple but yet not something I would have thought of in the first thousand attempts. I just kept re-installing to the same folder each time I tried.
Thank you! And thanks to all for responding.

Gary, you need a registry cleaner utility. You wouldn't believe how many programs do not completely uninstall themselves. Anti-virus programs are notoriously bad for that.

Hi Aharon.

No...you can't.

Ok..well...let me rephrase that. For now - YES - you can still use it but we will be getting rid of it so you may as well take the plunge now and get it setup. Trust us - it's MUCH simpler than the FSAcars and you will like it a lot better from a user perspective. The FSAcars stopped support long ago, the website will be dropping support for it as well in the future bcause it is a dead product.

The only downfall of the new program right now is that the flight log recording is not as detailed as the FSAcars currently is. Otherwise, you'll like it.

Give it a shot and let us know how you make out. You can actually install it now and keep your FSAcars also installed as they don't interfere with each other. That way, you can get used to the new one without fear of losing the old one until you are comfortable.

Cheers!

Thanks Darryl for kind reply!!

I will wait for Chuck to finish writing installation instructions before I proceed with installation of KASCAR or whatever it is called:):):) Cannot get that spelling correct. Let me memorize "kACARS".

I did not know FSCARS is a dead product and company is stopping supporting it. I thought FSCARS is most reliable software and I never have problems with it for 2 years.

Is kACARS crash proof? In other words, when FSX crashes, will kACARS keeps functioning awaiting a pilot to resume FSX?

For anyone running Vista and receiving a
"Fsuipc error #1
FSUIPC_ERR_OPEN. The connection to FSUIPC is already open"

Make sure you are running the program with administrator privileges. Navigate to the folder you installed kACARS in and right click the executable file ( kACARS-Customizable.exe) and choose properties, in the resulting window select the "Compatibility" tab and in the "Privilege Level" box check "Run this program as an administrator".

Note: set the actual .exe to run as administrator not the shortcut (icon) created by the program.
