I lately have been playing with the Demo of X plane and I must say I am very impressed. I like the way the weather and clouds are played in the sim. I am not crazy about having to learn all the keyboard shortcuts from scratch. I would of liked if they followed along the path of MS flight sim (easier transition) but oh well the idea is to be different right?
Is there anyone out there tried this or is using X plane as a main sim. I am thinking of switching to the dark side.

I'm thinking about it Frank. Aerosoft is saying they can deliver an almost complete version on disk before Christmas (with some aerosoft scenery included). I was kind of let down with Prepar3d as there does not seem to be much going on as far as scenery improvements. So I may explore the X-Plane route. I tried an X-Plane demo a long time ago, not sure which version, and I did not care for it - but I didn't mess with it much. This version looks good. Aerosoft seems to be ready to jump right in as a scenery dev for it (they are raving about it), while Orbx is staying away from it. Carenado is already doing planes for it.

It might be too quick to jump in, the thing could be a flop, and I think it costs about $80.00. But I'll probably get it, impulse buyer that I am. Always nice to try something new.

Keep us posted on what you think about it, and I'll do the same.

I hadn't even bothered with a demo for an older version of Xplane; flew it once and stuck with FS.

I am bothered by FSX with it being a resource hog, but I love the Level-D 767. And now that I have started to buy add-ons, switching would be expensive.

It would have to be an awesome sim...

Still playing with this. The demo is scenery restrictive but I got some screen shots here,

First is Xplane at Concrete Mun (Demo is KSEA area still scenery seems to be KSEA only)

Xplane3D cockpit rnw 7 in Baron 58

Same location but FSX

Same location FSX

Xplane departing Concrete 1000 ft

What I like is the weather (clouds are more realistic) weather in the screen shots are actual real date and time and FSX weather is not stock I am using Active Sky

some more shots as I was flying out Concrete (Xplane shots)

this one I do not understand why the nav light is out of position.

I also like the jagged edges of the mountains
