Anyone thinking about a new payware airliner may want to look at the E-Jets Series by Feel-There offered by Wilco. These are the Embraer 170 and 190 planes only slightly larger than the EMB-145. It is one of Feel-There's latest releases, and I think, by far the best one. I have many of their planes.

Image

Bad Point - as usual with this company the documentation leaves much to be desired. There is a good third party tutorial available though. You have to teach yourself to operate the plane. But that's fun right?

Image

Good points - Very nice FMC that is not that hard to master, can be updated with Navigraph. It seems very good on frame rates, but I have a high end machine so not sure about some older computers. Separate FSX and FS9 models-you can download both for one price.

Image

The PFD includes a vertical profile in addition to the standard lateral nav map. Very nice for pinpointing a crossing restriction and adjusting decent/ascent to a destination. This is the first plane I've seen with this.

Image

The plane is extremely easy to fly by hand! On my first few flights I had trouble figuring out how to activate the localizer and glideslope. Each time-after I panicked!- I disabled the AP and simply flew the plane to the runway with auto-throttle and landed about -200 FPM! I didn't need the AP at all! I could have easily hand flew the entire flight.

You can check it out at the Wilco.com website

I've been looking at this, Barry. Do you know what the difference is between this and the ERJ 175/195 v2?

It's here http://www.feelthere.com/2010/22_embraer-e-jets-v-2-embraer-175-and-195.html?product_id=22

Edit: GREAT pics by the way. How'd you keep the resolution? Format? They're not JPG are they?

Rob,

From what I can gather, I think the 175/195 is just newer with minor improvements and some more goodies. I am kind of surprised the Wilco Site still offers both versions, but I guess they are different airplanes-maybe the 175/195's are a bit bigger? I'm not planning to get the 175/195 just because I didn't see enough difference to have both. If I were buying for the first time, I would get the newer 175/195. I like this plane over the ERJ135/145 V2 and the CRJ because it has the full featured FMC and autothrottle like the Boeings-Level-D and the PIC 737. The PIC 737 has been out a long time, and I think this one handles better. It's also supported with 64 bit, although I've never had any problems with the older planes. And the vertical profile guage is very, very nice to fly with.

PS - I can't remember what I did with those pics. I probably fiddled with enlarging and sharpening some. It was nothing special because I'm stupid about photo programs.

The images are jpg files stored on Imageshack as the host...

Some people don't realize that you can change the quality settings when you store / save a jpg and by default most programs store at around 80% quality but you can tweak that back to 100.

Looks like the difference is as follows:
(both are "version 2")

170-190 is http://www.feelthere.com/2010/40_e-jets-series-embraer-170-and-190.html?product_id=40
175-195 is http://www.feelthere.com/2010/22_embraer-e-jets-v-2-embraer-175-and-195.html?product_id=22

170/190__________________vs_______175/195
---------------------------------------------------------------------
FMS with vertical planning___vs_______regular FMS
_________________________vs_______Call! and Map! simulations
_________________________vs_______HUD for 2d pit

Call! may be fun and useful (see way down in this article - http://simflight.com/2010/01/24/review-feelthere-erj-145v2/).
Map! is a map like you get in the Px seats. Doesn't seem too useful.

Edit: I think I'll go for the 170/190.

A couple days ago I figured I needed a Lower Class Plane.... So I purchased the Wilco ERJ 135LR/145LR. The detail they put into the Aircraft is amazing. It flies nice.
The FMC uses the FlightSimulators Flight plans to start, then once you entered the data needed for ALT the Flight plan can be saved and reused, so you don't need the download the Navigraph AIRACs
It doesn't seem as bad as the PMDG MD11 for FSX for IQs needed (Still haven't completed a flight in that one) but there is a huge manual to read. So far I give it a thumbs up.

The CONS (so far)
Baggage cart goes to the wrong side of the aircraft when the cargo door is open
Not all the cockpit buttons work, they are just pictures.
When switching to the HUD the panel switcher disappears and you have to use the menu to get back.

There is a paint kit for it, so when I get a minute I'll giterdone.

Outside is very detailed
Image

The air stairs worked realistically
Image

The lights have very good textures
Image

The landing gear components look very good, even have bugs and grime
Image

Detailed Reversers

Cockpit is very nice

Even the Passenger compartment is well done.

Exits look good

Seatbelts nicely crossed

Great! I have both these planes and love em. Great to see you guys climbing into some nice airplanes. We can always use some paints and more Class 2 routes too.

"Lower class"! Yep - I'm tired of the life in my 767 with Grey Poupon on my ham sandwiches! Time to mix with the working people. 8)

I was absolutely gob smacked with the textures on this thing too. They do NOT show up in these images (can't save my jpgs at a higher resolution, Darryl, without photo software - I use Paint only).

I don't know if paints for these birds are interchangable (between 145, 170, 175, etc), but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Barry, the reason I went for class 2 instead of the Flight 1 MD Super 80, is because we have 300 (!) class 2 routes. And I figure I can get credit for class 3 flights if I use a lower class on multis.

Time to hit the books!

Rob:

Check out the following:

http://www.irfanview.ca/

Nice piece of photo software to do some basic (i.e. - convert from format to alternate format, resize photos, etc).

Cheers!
