So im interested in flying on Vatsim but im afraid of making myself look like a fool since I dont even know how to navigate a airport (taxing) without using the progressive taxi.. Im pretty decent with radio communication though cause when I was in Cadets they taught me all that at a young age the differences between over and out and so on... But I could learn alot more.. Im wondering if its possible to be a co-pilot so that I can hop on vatsim and listen in on the radio and enjoy the flight while learning how this program works or if there are good sources online to teach me all this.. I know the difference between IFR and VFR flights and recently taught myself how to use radio navigation. If someone can give me their sources that they used to learn that would be great..


Also another question Im coming close to my 50 hours on CVA i have a total of 44 right now and I believe there is a test to get your silver wings that you have to do but I cant see it anywhere on the website, is it still required to take the test?

Hi Cody, I would say that flying on Vatsim is easy, Here is a few quick tips to get going.

1. Log on to Vatsim at a busy airport gate and just sit there and listen to the radios. You do not need to file a flight plan or go anywhere.
2. Your first flight should be at a smaller quiet airport and fly to a quiet airport.
3. Put the remark "New Pilot " in the remarks of your flight plan, this way the ATC controller will understand and will be more than happy to help you.
4. Join us on some Multies (Ones that we fly into small airports) we will talk and help you with anything we can.
