A number of people are having problems with FSX losing connection with usb joysticks under Windows 8.1 including me.
I have googled and checked various forums looking for a fix but have not found one.
Anyone here having similar problems and figured out a solution?

Normally everything works fine at the start but end up having to use the keyboard by the end of the flight.

I had similar problems for a while until I hooked up a powered hub for the joystick etc. and since no problems. Might just be your usb hub not supplying sufficient power.

Knowing Microsoft...it's a "Value Added Feature"

One thing to check would be for the power plan options (formerly in Windows 7 under the Control Panel. Possibly the USB ports are set to shutoff after a period of time for power saving green features (along with your hard drives, monitor, etc etc). You might want to see if you can disable it there and see if this helps.

Awesome! I knew I was on the right track with the power save options in Windows. Seem to many things like this happen in the past with Windows 7 and otehr versions so figured it had to be tied in.

Unfortunately it didn't work.

I had that same issue with a massive worse then being hung over headache . I just went to the PX on base and bought 6 Windows 7 64 Ultimate disk. Lesson treat W8 and 8.1 like Vista. Sad thing is I live in Vegas as the USN has me assigned here and my neighbor is a MS IT. He said and recommends the same burn the 8 and reverse to W7 64 if your a FSX/P3D user.

That's kind of ugly to know. I have not went to Windows 8 yet and do not plan anytime soon. I've read a lot of posts about problems.
They should get it worked out. But who knows when.

There is also another interesting issue with W8. Try changing out the graphics card with a UEFI in W8. You'll get nothing unless you can and are allowed to access Bio's and set UEFI to Legacy mode prior to changing from on board to the Graphics Card. Just another little skull ache.

Windows 8.1 has and continues to give me nothing but trouble when using the simulator. One of he reasons you don't see me around much any more.
