They still might be recovering from what I hear is a Raid0 Server main HD drive. Three times today i have been able to access the DL's thru the .net location, but not the forums.

Found a Official AVSIM statement from Tom A.
"Folks,

We have had a hard drive fail. It happens that it is the principle (boot / system drive) for the forums. We are offline until we can get new hardware and get someone in there to fix it. It could be a while. This is not your normal hard drive. It is a RAID array and will require that we replace ALL six disks on that array. Please pass the word out to all the web sites you visit please. I will post a notice on FACEBOOK."

Ouch...having to replace all 6 drives in the raid array likely means that it was a Raid 5 setup and they lost at least 2 drives in the array...or something to that degree. Either way - I would not expect it up anytime soon :(

Is Rod Thompson not working for them? Perhaps he knows something?

Cheers Bill

Sorry, have not been online too much, working on FSX main computer. Don't want to go there! But almost finished.

The forum server, which serves the main page as well had a drive in the Raid array go down, when it was replaced and it was working to reload its information another drive went down, it then corrupted the raid array. Other drives also were going bad so replacements were ordered and installed. Then the fun began with restoring from the backup, after many hours it didn't work (this was on a weekend) so had to wait for the backup supplier to help out with the rebuild. Nothing went easy and after many hours or should say days it all worked. The plan is to upgrade the server raid array to help out in the long run.

My work with them is on the library and it is going quite well. It can be frustrating at times due to some individuals. For those now volunteering to work on the library I worked on a new manual for that has been well received.

Back flying again in a day or so after I finish reloading FSX, aircraft are back in and now figuring out what scenery I will install and have to reinstall weather program, on-line software and set up my controls. Started from scratch as FSX was becoming buggy with all the changes I had made. Will never learn to leave well enough alone.
