I was reading this story on the news
http://news.ca.msn.com/top-stories/driv ... ight-lands

and it reminded me of Gary's fantastic humor in this picture of his work.

There was a incident in Helsinki many years ago in which a Finnair MD-87 plane on route from Oslo came in to land. There was an service van on the runway in poor visibility conditions with two men repairing runway lights. The landing plane hit the van with the left main landing gear. The van was demolished totally. The pilot managed to stop the plane to the side of the runway and nobody was hurt. Luckily the van was unoccupied when the plane hit it. There was some mix up in the communications and the controller thought the van was in a different location than it actually was at.
