Shalom and greetings all my pals,

Just came across an interesting business article offering comprehensive analysis of Alaska Airlines and its operations. Here are interesting facts about Alaska Airlines out of this cool article as seen below.

Some airports in Alaska are so dangerous and so difficult that Alaska Airlines' first officers are not allowed to land there; only captains are trusted to do so.

Alaska Airlines made profits for 33 out of 39 past years. Last year was almost 1/2 billion dollar profit which was 29 percent more than year 2011!!!

Because radar operations are useless in Alaska as radar beams are blocked by mountains or high hills, Alaska Airline was first to use satellite navigation in 1990s.

Pilot training for Alaska Airlines is one of two or three most rigorous airline training in the world. To train for flying in Arctic operations, Alaska Airlines pilots would need six years of training to get certificate for flying around in Arctic areas and airports. Many of new hires for this airline are usually bush taxi pilots.

Alaska Airlines in 1945 to 1950 was one of world's largest cargo airlines which was why it was chosen to participate in famous Berlin Airlift hauling lots of cargo loads.

Alaska Airlines was first in America to offer inflight movies.

Alaska Airlines pilots offer landing tip on icy 5,000 ft or 6,000 ft runways using 737s even 739s which is to land the wheels hard on the tarmac to activate the automatic braking and antiskidding systems. Landing too smoothly, or gliding above the runway for too long, could make the wheels slide on the ice or snow and deprive the pilot of braking power.

Regards,

Aharon
