Shalom all my pals,

Here is whole story of situation of tragic case of my dying laptop.

I am trying to figure out how to repair damaged or corrupted start up files and damaged or corrupted start up registry files??

My 4 year old laptop seems to do everything in safe mode meaning nothing wrong with the laptop so the fault lies with start up or boot up. It will not start up to normal Vista environment.

So what I need to do to save my laptop is to find someone's Vista Home Premium CDs' repair function to repair the specific corrupt files OR buy Vista Business Upgrade CDs to overwrite damaged start up files while keeping all programs and files intact.

Of course I am shopping around for new laptop as insurance policy in case my 4 year old laptop fails me again. My two top choices are HP laptop and Sony laptop. I like everything in Sony laptop except three facts: the battery is not removable, it does not have fans meaning it can get overheated during 2 hour flight, and it has 5,400 rpm. I want HP but configuration is only available via internet and I hate the idea of buying new notebook and have it being shipped by mail as Fed Ex, UPS, and post office employees always treat packages like American football or British rugby considering the fact that any laptop is made of fragile parts.

I am going to be out of flying action for one month after six years of non stop FSX flying!!!

Aharon

Buy Windows 7 32bit.

I have yet to find any thread on the web that praises Vista, and Win 7 is said to require less resources, leaving more for FS-X. It's also a LOT more reliable and MS will continue updates for a while yet.

I'm in Dryden Ontario working right now, all I have is my Macbook Pro, When I get home I'll do something up.
(My memory isn't that good that I can whip something up on Windows 7 while using a Mac) :? I just use Windows 7
on the Mac to test fly a bit and paint. I don't have anything installed other than FSX and what I fly and very little add ons.
But the 3 computers I have at home are all done this way and when I install the Image disks to them even sim connect
works for them all to be linked together immediately after they are finished. all the permissions are there, and the computer
just runs better, (No Garbage I guess) :P

That is very interesting and you just beat me to post my question right here:

Shalom and greetings all my pals,

While I am shopping to replace my dying notebook for new laptop package consisted of at least 12 GB ram, quad core i7, at least 750 GB hard drive with 7,200 rpm, 2 gb video dedicated ram, and 15 inch HD 1080p screen, I am curious to know if any of you FSX users have problem using FSX in conjunction with Windows 7 as Vista is no longer available on laptops.

Thanks,

Aharon

Cal,

Thanks for your another post with more explanations. When you have chance, I am sure the entire CVA pilot community would gratefully appreciate if you make a sticky permanent post explaining about image disc pertaining to use of FSX.

This will be most valuable advice post!!

Thanks for your image disc idea!!

Regards,

Aharon

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit with FS-X sp2, FSUIPC, WideFS and FSinn without problems.

Glad to hear that!!!!

I am deciding between Hewlett Packard, Alienware, Velocity, and Sony for laptop!!!!! Will cost me between 1,200 and 1,600 dollars before stupid taxes.

Package should be like as seen below:

3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3610QM (6MB Cache, up to 3.3GHz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0)
16GB Dual Channel DDR3 1600MHz
750GB 7,200 RPM SATA 3Gb/s
2 GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 650M with Optimus™
14.0" High Def+ (900p/1600x900) with WLED backlight or 15inch HD 1080p (1600x900)
Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2230 With Bluetooth 4.0
Slot Load Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW)
63WHr 8-Cell Primary Battery

Have you checked out this one? A little pricey, but it looks like a killer:

This looks awesome for the price. Everything down here in Aus costs way more than in the US. Do you desperately need a laptop Aharon, because in my experience, a desktop computer with similar performance would be cheaper.

I am currently thinking of upgrading my laptop, which has vista :evil:, to a desktop. I was thinking something along the lines of;

Intel i5 3750k
AsRock z77 Extreme 4
Nvidia 560 Ti
1tb WD Caviar Blue, 7200 RPM
8GB DDR 3 RAM
720W CoolerMaster modular PSU
CoolerMaster Elite 371 case
LG Blu RAY disk drive
Possibly an 128 GB SSD if I have enough money remaining after buying a screen and win7

Can I get some feedback on these specs please. Does anyone know what settings FSX would run on for this system.

Thanks
Ryan

Barry,

That laptop certainly looks killer and has too many features that I do not even need such as 3 GB video ram when I prefer 2 GB ram and 250 GB solid state drive with 750 GB drive which I would be more than happy with just 750 GB drive. Also this company MSI is not exactly renowned for great battery life in laptops. Moreover, I do not need 17 inch screen. I prefer 15 inch screen.

My price limit is 1,500 bucks before silly taxes. I am deciding between Hewlett Packard, Sony, Velocity, and Alienware. I strongly prefer Hewlett Packard but I hate idea of buying laptop through internet and mail because I have seen UPS, FED EX, DHL, and post office employees treating packages like football or rubgy sport. Imagine laptop with fragile parts being tossed around in shipping box and then a laptop company does not believe me if my laptop does not work.

Regards,

Aharon

Cal,

Is that what I did past 4 years???? I did not earn ATP Master pilot rank with Vista on CVA for nothing.

You sure cannot blame on Vista if new stealth virus hit my laptop and destroyed or corrupted start up/boot up files. You can blame on Norton company OR on internet service provider for that but not on Vista. Norton and different anti virus softwares as well as skybot and malware anti protection softwares cannot find virus that is blocking me from booting up to normal environment and here I am typing reply to you using laptop in safe mode.

Ryan,

You did not tell us what company makes this desktop. The company can be lousy. Also when it comes to buying new computer or laptop, I have strict rule of thumb: always buy for future, not for present or not for past or otherwise you will find your computer or laptop outdated before it arrives at your home. When buying laptop or desktop with intentions of keeping it for 3 years, think of future computing needs, not present computing needs.

I would go for 16 GB ram and you did not mention how much video ram but I would go for 2 GB video ram.

Aharon
