B'ah, I should have read the top of their reply more closely: Quote: Nice to get your inquiry to our products from Alibaba Com. Our company major in producing the TFT LCD Monitors , LCD SKD Module for Automation system ,Industrial Application ,Tablet PC with Window CE OS and the Satellite Finder which are popular on the market . We have one model of 5"SKD Module with VGA Input without housing which are more suitable for your project ,here enclosed is the spefication and diagram for the PCB for 5" for your reference:
I had included NTSC VGA input from a PC as a requirement. I guess I should have been more specific. They most likely don't list Windows 7 or XP for a reason too. I'm going to wait before I ask her; there's always something new that pops up as I get more replies. I first started with 5" LCD. LOL Now I'm up to: 5" diagonal LCD monochrome preferred (colour is acceptable) 640x480 pixels horizontal layout NTSC VGA input LED backlighting 5 volts DC preferred (3 to 12 volts DC is acceptable) 0 degree viewing angle preferred open frame Microsoft Windows XP or Windows 7 compatibility without touch screen without audio

Started on the CDU, still too big at 5"x6" (and this is just the main keypad), printed circuit boards cost by area. I don't feel like making them myself any more, prefer to let someone else inhale the fumes. That, and I can spend time doing something else on the project. I had stopped working on this back in 2006, so it took a few days to get used to the software again.

Things get complicated mighty quick when you start putting the different layers together. I can make the main and line keypads even smaller (yellow & orange). That would bring me reasonably close to the size of CDUs I've seen on the web. I'm using through-hole pushbuttons that I have on hand for the prototype. Surface mount pushbuttons with laser marked keycaps would take even less room. A laser marking machine starts at $1000 in China, then add shipping, exchange rate, brokerage fees, import fees, taxes. ugh... I had to flip the line keypads. I added a 7th button to control brightness but it was in the way at the top. I'll redo that circuit later when I get the LCD so I can align the buttons properly. The LCD comes with a control circuit (white). That thing takes up a ton of room up there (power, menu, select, etc). It also has an infrared detector, as if I need a remote. I'll have to make my own and place it vertically beside the main keypad. The LCD driver (green) is in the background, with the connectors sticking up the top. Coming up with an acceptable enclosure for this is going to be a challenge. Too bad I don't have any relatives in the sheet-metal bending business.

The company that I'll be ordering the LCDs are cool. They sent me the schematic for their control keypad; the white one across the top (Power, Menu, Select, etc). That way I'll be able to redo a smaller version that I can put vertically at the lower right on the CDU. Started Paintshop drawings to scale to distribute the controls and to get an overall idea using simple pushbuttons and LEDs. This will be on the left of a 19" LCD with main FS-X gauges (those fancy graphic ones): I know I can control many of these with regular keyboard commands, but I didn't check yet if I can control the rest with FSUIPC.

So I was checking out the keyboard commands within Level-D for the first time. Center Elec Pump 2 ...............SHIFT+CTRL+TAB+B
Are you freaking serious? I knew we had triple keystroke commands, not surprising with all the commands in the cockpit, but quadruple? I'd like to see someone try those as they're coming in for an instrument landing. LMAO! HSI Mode (-) .........................................SHIFT+TAB+F12
Try to do that with one hand!

Just bought AES (Airport enhancment Service) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYaiycuMy8Aand it is amazing, only paywear airports thou. I have TNCM and looks good, but also there is more keystrokes to remember, now I have to free up some that are unused from FSX. I'll have to amke a video of it when I get the PMDG738 out of the paint shop. So many keys to remember.................................

Nice find, but I only need 250 switches, not a minimum 1000 LOL Give me a good idea of what kind of switches are out there, there is some nice latching switches.

eBay is your friend after you used the ones you want. I bet you'd make a good profit selling what's left over in small batches. Or you can get them in small batches: http://www.ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_from=R40 ... fety+Cover5 for under $9.00CAD: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/5-pcs-Opaque-Red ... 5d2c3d0151

Yeesh, it's taking a lot more real-estate then I originally thought to map out all Level-D 767 controls. This includes the FMC and sliders for throttles and such; all that is needed is a yoke. I wanted to see if it was possible to make a simple system that someone could tuck away in a case that could fit under a desk. Each panel is 8.5"W x 12"H x 1.5"D. Everything in there is within my grasp technology-wise, it's just going to take a starting inventory and you saw what minimum order quantities can be like. The panels would lay out something like this, but inclined at the same rate as the center LCD for FS-X gauges (and front view for someone on single monitor): These are just preliminary drawings (a few corrections to be made), but everything is in there: Overhead 1 Overhead 2 Overhead 3 Left MIP Right MIP Pedestal 1 Pedestal 2 Just getting all those commands to fit took a lot of hours. I didn't get everything exactly like on the LDS panels, but close enough to get an idea for now.

I did find these very interesting. Having one LED in the pushbutton gives me a bit more room on the panels too. The nice thing is I can mix and match cap and LED colours; it makes it easier to spot at a glance normal operating functions from overrides and emergency functions. For comparison, this is the base at Digikey: http://www.digikey.ca/product-detail/en ... -ND/378807$1.09554/1000 ($1095.54 CAD). The cap is sold separately, it's square (I want round, easier to make holes in panels), and not a lot of cap colour & LED selection: http://www.digikey.ca/product-detail/en ... -ND/378812$0.67193/1000 ($671.93 CAD) China is $320 USD; shipping, brokerage, and customs/taxes aren't even going to come close to over $1700 CAD. I make it a priority to buy local or national, but at these prices it's crazy when you start buying in large volumes.

Would you believe all this started as a panel for NASCAR Racing 2003? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtQNCvaSiY4And then rFactor came out, and then iRacing. So I never got to finish my prototype; it worked, menu driven from the PC via USB, just stopped at the box-making stage. iRacing is here to stay, but they have so many cars, so many different functions. And to make it worse, their game is constantly evolving and improving, so a great panel today mightbe obsolete tomorrow. I have a few racing clips up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjbYhMK7_MMThis guy was my nemesis on the track, often found myself in his split: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Klww7nRcoRcSkip to 7:00 if you get bored.
