Hey All,
Just wondering what settings you guys changed with the HDR addon?
I'm using a relatively decent puter these days, and I seem to have taken a framerate hit with the default settings.

i7-2600k, nvidia 560, 8gb ram, win7ult 64bit....

Oh my goodness.. Yall haven't seen the HDR mod for fsx that has been out for a couple years now?
It changes your graphics lighting to make things look more realistic.. like your eye would see.

Here is a video.. surely not the best representation, but enough to get your interest enough to try it maybe.

Try it out... it's small.. it's fun :)

I'm still becoming aware of all the FSX gadgetry out there.
Where might I find it?

Interesting, but I wonder if it's worth putting if you have REX and the other goodies.

Absolutely! It has nothing to do with textures or other addons. It's more of a change in how light works in FSX. It makes the light feel more.. global? More natural? Try it.. it's free and makes a huge difference. Saying that, I've turned it off. On my system it caused some performance issues (I'm only using a gtx560).

I've put it in. As is said on many forums, the effect is very subtle but certainly (I think) an improvement although I don't know if that's a placebo effect.

I do not like it. The lighting does not look natural. I would think that my adjustments are already optimized so by applying this it gets worst.

I tried it and felt same as Frank. Then I landed in Amsterdam with Aerosoft's enhanced airport and the sim crashed at touchdown. I don't know what else would have caused it. I think anyone should certainly try it, and if it works for you, great. It's just not suited for every set up.

True enough guys.. coincidentally I don't use it anymore either. Though it was a neat idea. :)

Found something similar - for those who want to try a new gadget - it's called Shade for FSX. I've only used it on a few short flights so far - but I've been impressed with the look. It works on the light and shadows and gives a 3D look to the scenery. Works with all scenerys. This shot is at Concrete Muni in Orbx PNW. It's a subtle change-don't expect a glaring new look on your screen - but the change for me has been very nice.

It costs about $11.00 USD at Flight Sim Store - http://www.flightsimstore.com

The Orbx Forum has threads started to discuss the product.

Here's the shot but there is probably not enough resolution here to really see the difference.

After having second thoughts, I started using the ENBSeries (HDR plugin) again, and I am having better results. This time I got the files from the Orbx Forum - Tips, Tricks, & Techniques - John's ENB Series .ini file and d3d9.dll file.

Attached File enbseries.zip (1.11K)

Attached File d3d9.dll(No text).zip (79.23K)

The enbseries.ini file from this post has been tweaked and looks much better on my system. No crashes yet-we will wait and see.

There is a second enbseries.ini file with the post - JV_enbseries._DOF.zip (1.11K). That one is too blurried for me but you might want to try it.

To use - just put the enbseries.ini file and the d3d9.dll file in the main FSX folder. ENB will be activated when you start and can be toggled on/off with Shft-F12. Make sure bloom is unchecked in FSX.

So far I have been pleased with the effect and am using it without the Shade program - they can be used together but for me it gets too dark using both. I'm using a GEForce 460 card.

So I have not written this off yet. Seems lots of fliers on the Orbx forum are just thrilled with this program and say they don't want to fly without it. You see the most effects from this flying with clouds and in the morning or evening. With mid-day sun and no shadows, the effect is less noticeable.

Hum I haven't tried that tip and trick. Will give it a go Barry, thanks for the HU. Are there any reports of using the emb with shade? Been trying to find a addon that'll help the arctic area out.
