Thanks for the help guys, I have decided to follow Barry's example and go for FS Commander. I have the CD version on order at Amazon.

I've been using FS Commander v8.6 for quite some time now and it does everything I need in a flight planning software.
Anything else I want that isn't in FS-X I get in FSinn. Radar is my favorite feature. I like the extensive voice panels; ATIS, nearby ATC and other pilots are very well displayed.

another good one for VFR is Plan G and the price is right...... FREE
